JOHANNESBURG – 21 October, 2026 Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), the industry leader in delivering freedom and choice in experiences with uncompromising hospitality, today opened for sale its next cutting-edge vessel, Norwegian Bella™, which will offer seven-day round-trip Mediterranean itineraries from Barcelona, Spain beginning in May 2028.

At approximately 1,129 feet long and 170,000 gross tons, Norwegian Bella will accommodate 3,921 guests at double occupancy and will join Norwegian Aura as the largest ships in the NCL fleet. Her inaugural season of voyages will include an unparalleled way for guests to experience Europe’s most captivating destinations, including Rome, Florence and Salerno, Italy; Marseille, France; and Palma de Mallorca, Spain.

On board, Norwegian Bella will offer similar experiences to Norwegian Aura, the Company’s latest vessel due for delivery in May 2027. With Norwegian Bella sailing in Europe and Norwegian Aura in the Caribbean, NCL will bring its newest guest experiences to two of the world’s top cruise destinations. Both vessels are currently being built by renowned Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri, with interior designs created by world-class architects AD Associates, Piero Lissoni, Rockwell Group, SMC Design, and Studio Dado.

Spanning decks 18 through 21, Ocean Heights™ is the multi-level, open-air complex that transforms throughout the day, serving as a sun-soaked playground by afternoon that evolves into a vibrant social hub under the stars with immersive lighting and LED projections at night.

From friendly competition to heart-pounding thrills, Norwegian Bella delivers unforgettable experiences for guests of all ages. Adventure seekers can race side-by-side on Eclipse Racers, take the plunge on the Bella Free Fall waterslide or experience The Wave, a pendulum-style raft slide accommodating up to four riders. For the ultimate adrenaline rush, travellers can brave The Drop, the signature Prima Class dry slide that sends guests speeding down 10 decks in a matter of seconds. OCEAN BOULEVARD: OCEAN VIEWS, FAMILY SPACES AND INFINITY BEACH

Wrapping the entire ship on deck eight, Norwegian Bella’s Ocean Boulevard is the signature Prima Class promenade, now enhanced with additional seating compared to Norwegian Aqua and Norwegian Luna, featuring hot tubs and an outdoor bar. Over 15% larger than Norwegian Aqua’s and Norwegian Luna’s pool decks, Norwegian Bella’s expansive pool deck features more space and seating, an infinity hot tub and a large LED entertainment screen, creating the perfect backdrop for relaxing days at sea.

Continuing NCL’s tradition of partnering with renowned artists to create iconic hull artwork across its fleet, Norwegian Bella will feature a striking original design by acclaimed Australian contemporary artist George Rose. Known for her bold murals and vibrant botanical compositions, Rose creates immersive works that blend fine art and design through vivid colour, fluid gradients and graphic natural forms. With a career spanning more than 15 years, Rose has worked across cultural, public and commercial contexts internationally including work with STRAAT Museum Amsterdam, the Australian Embassy in Indonesia, Colab Gallery Germany, and brands such as Instagram, Nike and TikTok.

JOHANNESBURG: 12 October, 2026 – Norwegian Cruise Line® (NCL) has announced that two new inaugural Mediterranean sailings aboard Norwegian Aura™ are now open for sale. The new voyages, made possible by the ship’s anticipated early delivery, mark the first opportunities for guests to sail aboard Norwegian Aura, NCL’s newest and largest ship, beginning May 2, 2027.

Norwegian Aura’s newly added inaugural Mediterranean sailings include a 10-day voyage from Trieste, Italy, to Athens (Piraeus), Greece departing May 2, 2027 and a nine-day voyage from Athens (Piraeus), Greece, to Trieste, Italy, departing May 12, 2027. The 10-day itinerary will call to Dubrovnik and Split, Croatia; Bar, Montenegro; and Corfu, Santorini and Mykonos, Greece, and the nine-day sailing will visit Rhodes, Mykonos, Santorini, and Corfu, Greece; Bar, Montenegro; and Split and Zadar, Croatia. Together, the newly released voyages give travellers the opportunity to be the first to experience Norwegian Aura during her inaugural season while visiting bucket-list Mediterranean ports.

Norwegian Aura will be NCL’s largest and longest ship to date at nearly 1,130 feet long and approximately 170,000 gross tons. The ship will be 10% larger than Norwegian Aqua® and Norwegian Luna® and will feature Ocean Heights™, a first-in-the-fleet outdoor activities complex spanning decks 18 through 21. Whitney: A Celebration of Whitney Houston – A New Original Production Honouring One of Music’s Most Iconic Voices

Developed in partnership with The Estate of Whitney E. Houston and music publishing company Primary Wave Music, the production reimagines Houston’s artistry through contemporary arrangements, dynamic storytelling and immersive stagecraft. Inspired by the glamour, confidence and star power that made Houston a global phenomenon, the show pays tribute to one of the most iconic voices ever recorded, transforming beloved songs into a vibrant concert experience that feels both timeless and entirely new. Guests will enjoy iconic hits including “It’s Not Right, But It’s OK,” “I Will Always Love You,” and “I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me),” the nine-times RIAA certified platinum dance-pop anthem, also named Best Pop Song of All Time by Billboard magazine in 2023.

Staged in the three-story Aura Theatre & Club, the 45-minute production combines live vocals, a live band, stunning visuals and performances extending beyond the main stage to create an immersive experience.

Ahead of its Sept. 4, 2026 grand opening, the exclusive event gave attendees a first look at the destination’s newest landmark, including thrilling attractions, new culinary offerings and special activations from NCL’s beverage partners – Aperol^®, Coca-Cola^®, Casamigos^™ and Hampton Water^®.

Beginning with the ceremonial ribbon cutting, invitees heard from John Chidsey, President and Chief Executive Officer of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd.; Marc Kazlauskas, President of Norwegian Cruise Line; Herschel Walker, United States Ambassador to the Commonwealth of The Bahamas and Randy Rolle Member of Parliament of Bimini and the Berry Islands.

Following the ceremony, the gates opened for invited guests, including NHL star Taylor Hall of the Carolina Hurricanes and Josh Peck, multi-talented actor, bestselling author and podcast host and creator, to explore the nearly six-acre Great Tides Waterpark and experience many of its signature, and industry-first, attractions firsthand. Throughout the day, attendees enjoyed a variety of curated experiences across Great Tides Waterpark, including partner-hosted hospitality experiences and opportunities to discover the island’s newest offerings.

Highlights from the preview event included:

• Signature partner activations featuring specialty cocktails, beverage tastings, branded giveaways and photo opportunities from Aperol at the Grotto Bar, Casamigos at Floataway Bar along the Wandering River, Coca-Cola by Splash Cay and Hampton Water near Tidal Tower. These experiences will also be available to guests during the official grand opening celebration on Sept. 4, 2026.
• A culinary showcase of Great Tides Waterpark’s newest dining venues featured samples from three new food trucks: barbecue at Low Tide Smoke, seafood favourites at Catch of the Cay and handcrafted ice cream and soft serve at Tidal Treats.
• A vibrant Junkanoo performance celebrated the culture, music and spirit of The Bahamas, bringing colorful energy to the day’s festivities.

At Great Tides Waterpark, one-of-a-kind experiences are available throughout four main areas:

• Tidal Tower, the iconic centerpiece standing at 170-feet tall, featuring eight exhilarating slides including the Tropic Spiral – the first Nautilus slide in the world with large spirals that spin guests into thrilling different directions; the Breakwater Blasters, the industry-first dueling Master Blaster slides in the Caribbean which propel inner-tubes uphill and through steep drops and twists with high-pressure water jets, and many more.
• Cliffside Cove, featuring Cliffside Leap, the industry’s first-ever, and the Caribbean’s tallest cliff jumps, at 10 and 15 feet high; The Great Slide, the Caribbean’s only family slide where four guests can slide down together for an adrenaline rush; and The Fearless Falls slides dropping riders down from five feet above the water.   
• Wandering River, a dynamic river over 800 feet long, features the industry’s first immersive tunnel and swim-up bar, Floataway Bar, alongside the river.

The opening of Great Tides Waterpark represents one of the most significant enhancements in Norwegian Cruise Line’s ongoing investment in Great Stirrup Cay. With the recent additions, the new waterpark expands the breadth of experiences available to guests while further strengthening Great Stirrup Cay’s position as a leading private island destination in the Caribbean.

A New Era of Wellness at Sea

Spanning two decks, the Mandara Spa, beautifully designed by the Rockwell Group, will utilize the restorative power of nature to create an expansive wellness sanctuary, with spaces and experiences inspired by forest canopies, cave-like retreats, cascading waterfalls and the rhythms of nature.

At the heart of the experience is the industry’s most expansive Thermal Suite, offering 15 wellness amenities, including 11 new experiences, built around the principles of contrast therapy. Guests can move between warm and cool spaces, water features and quiet lounges to create their own relaxation routine, whether they want to unwind after a day ashore, recover from travel or simply enjoy a slower moment at sea.

Among the signature experiences is the Sensory Rain Pool, the first of its kind at sea. New Dining Experiences Plus Expanded Guest Favourites

Continuing NCL’s commitment to delivering more choice and variety, Norwegian Aura’s culinary program includes 22 food and beverage options spanning over 10 distinct cuisines. Making its debut aboard Norwegian Aura, Tamara will become NCL’s first specialty restaurant dedicated to Indian cuisine. Located on Deck 8, Tamara’s design incorporates warm earth tones, intricate detailing and an open-view kitchen anchored by striking tandoor ovens, creating an inviting atmosphere that celebrates both culinary tradition and contemporary dining. Guests will enjoy authentic flavours with dishes like Short-Rib Dosa, a crisp rice-lentil crepe with tomato sambar, fenugreek and coconut chutney; Lamb Biryani, with basmati rice, warm spices and caramelised onions; and a Green Papaya Salad, tossed tableside with pomegranate, tamarind, peanuts, jaggery and chili.  

Also new to Norwegian Aura is The Panorama Room, a completely reimagined complimentary dining experience that transforms traditional main dining through immersive visual technology. Located on Deck 6, the venue features expansive LED displays, multi-channel audio, synchronised lighting and dynamic visuals that evolve throughout the day and evening, transporting guests through ever-changing landscapes, artwork and scenic environments as they dine. Additional enhancements include an expanded Surfside Café, which will now span both sides of the vessel to create a more seamless guest experience, and the return of Indulge Food Hall, featuring nine globally inspired stations. These findings, courtesy of the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) State of the Industry Report, are striking enough on their own. What makes them even more striking is the gap between that reality and the perception that still lingers in many South African households: that cruising is rigid and designed for someone older and far less adventurous than we are.

The product generating those satisfaction scores looks almost nothing like that image. And the sooner South African travellers close that gap, the sooner they access one of the most complete holiday experiences currently available anywhere in the world.

One suitcase, multiple countries, zero compromises

Ask anyone who cruises regularly why they keep coming back, and, according to CLIA, two answers will surface more than any other:

• the ability to visit multiple destinations in a single trip.
• the sense that they are genuinely getting value for their money.

When you examine what a seven-day Mediterranean or Caribbean itinerary actually delivers, it’s not difficult to see why.

A single sailing can take you from Barcelona to the Amalfi Coast and from a morning at the Vatican to an evening watching the sun set over Mykonos. You unpack once and sleep in the same bed every night, and the logistics (including transfers, accommodation, restaurant research, airport queues between cities) simply disappear.

What remains is the travel itself.

“Many cruise lines also offer special packages designed to extend that value further still. The appeal of knowing what’s included before you board is considerable for South African travellers accustomed to watching holiday extras accumulate into a second bill,” comments Nirosha Sidat, Country Manager for Africa at Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL).

But what’s changed, and what makes the conversation about cruising more interesting than it has ever been, is that the ship is no longer simply the thing that moves you between those places. For a growing number of travellers, it has become a destination in its own right.

When the journey becomes the experience

The world’s most discerning hospitality brands have been paying close attention to what’s happening at sea. Luxury hotel groups, names synonymous with the finest land-based experiences on the planet, have begun launching their own vessels, recognising that the ship experience has evolved to rival, and in some cases surpass, what their properties can offer on shore.

“What we’re hearing consistently from South African guests is that they arrive expecting a holiday and leave having experienced something they did not anticipate. The ship itself becomes part of the story, and they talk about it the way they talk about the best hotel they’ve ever stayed in – except this one took them to five different countries,” says Sidat.

It is a shift that Sidat observes not as a trend, but as a fundamental recalibration of what travellers understand a holiday to be capable of delivering.

What a modern ship actually looks like

NCL’s newest ship, Norwegian Luna, officially launched on 4 April 2026, and she is as good an illustration as any of where cruise ship design has arrived.

Norwegian Luna belongs to NCL’s Prima Plus Class, a category of vessel built on the philosophy that space, flow, and variety are essentials rather than luxuries. She is 10% larger than her predecessors, and that additional space has been used thoughtfully: wider deck layouts that never feel crowded, expanded dining options, and a range of experiences that sit comfortably at both ends of the spectrum between thrill and tranquillity.

On the thrill end:

• The Aqua Slidecoaster, the world’s first hybrid roller coaster and waterslide, which is exactly as exhilarating as it sounds.
• The Glow Court, an interactive LED sports floor that transforms depending on what you’re playing.

On the tranquillity and refinement end:

• The Haven, NCL’s ship-within-a-ship concept, offering a butler service, private dining, and accommodation that would not look out of place in a five-star city hotel.
• Sukhothai, the first Thai restaurant at sea on any major cruise line.
• Planterie, a dedicated plant-based dining venue.
• Three-bedroom duplex suites for those travelling in larger groups or with family.

The result is a ship that resists easy categorisation, and that’s precisely the point. The modern cruise vessel is not built for a single type of traveller, but for the reality of how people actually holiday: in groups, across generations, with different appetites for adventure and different definitions of a perfect day at sea.

CLIA data shows that 28% of cruise travellers sail with three or more generations. That’s grandparents, parents, and children sharing the same holiday without anyone having to compromise on what they do with their time. On a ship like Norwegian Luna, a grandparent can spend the morning at a wine tasting while a teenager conquers the Aqua Slidecoaster and a couple savours a private balcony breakfast before heading ashore. Nobody is waiting for anyone, and nobody is bored.

The social architecture of a modern cruise ship is also particularly well suited for solo travellers, a segment that has grown significantly in recent years, with CLIA reporting that one in eight cruise travellers now sails alone. NCL pioneered the studio cabin specifically for solo guests – thoughtfully designed single-occupancy accommodation that does not carry the single supplement penalty that makes solo land-based travel so financially punishing.

The shore has not gone anywhere

It would be a mistake to read any of this as an argument for staying on the ship. The destination still matters deeply. What modern cruising has done is raise the quality of both sides of the equation simultaneously.

NCL’s Mediterranean itineraries, for instance, are built around extended time ashore. Late-night departures from Dubrovnik allow guests to stay for dinner in the old city and watch the sun go down over the Adriatic before returning to the ship. Extended port time in Livorno opens up full-day excursions to Florence or Pisa, and in Santorini, guests can linger for the famous sunset before sailing on. The ship does not pull you away from the destination, but it certainly gives you a better base from which to experience it.

“What I find most exciting is that we’re still in the early stages of South Africans discovering what modern cruising really offers. The guests who have sailed are coming back, and they’re bringing friends and family with them. That word of mouth is the most honest endorsement the product can receive, and it tells you everything about the experience they are having,” Sidat concludes.

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), the innovator in global cruise travel, together with its longtime shipbuilding partner Fincantieri S.p.A, celebrated the float out of Norwegian Aura™, marking a construction milestone for the cruise company’s largest and most illuminating vessel to date.

The float out, which took place at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, marks the first time Norwegian Aura touched water, signifying the completion of the ship’s external hull construction. Following this milestone, the ship’s interior development will continue progressing to the next phase ahead of her debut in the spring of 2027. To commemorate the occasion and honour maritime tradition, two ceremonial coins were welded into Norwegian Aura’s hull during a traditional coin ceremony, symbolising good fortune and safe passage for the ship, her crew and future guests.

When she enters service, Norwegian Aura will set a new benchmark for NCL. Nearly 1,130 feet long and approximately 170,000 gross tons, the ship is 10% larger than her predecessors, Norwegian Aqua® and Norwegian Luna™. Norwegian Aura will set sail on her maiden voyage on May 21, 2027, with a seven-day Mediterranean voyage departing from Trieste, Italy and calling to iconic ports in Italy and Malta, before embarking on a 14-day transatlantic crossing to the United States. Beginning June 10, 2027, she will homeport in Miami and offer a variety of seven-day voyages to the Eastern Caribbean and Western Caribbean with visits to the Company’s resort-style island destinations Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas and Harvest Caye in Belize through March 2028.

When Norwegian Aura calls to Great Stirrup Cay for the first time in June 2027, guests will step ashore to a fully enhanced and more accessible private island experience, supported by a new multi-ship pier, a welcome plaza, and a tram service that makes moving from ship-to-shore and around the island easier than ever. Highlights available on Great Stirrup Cay include the Great Life Lagoon, a resort-style pool area with two swim-up bars, cabanas and lounge chairs, alongside the nearby Splash Harbor, offering aquatic fun for kids.  It also features the adults-only Vibe Shore Club, a private beachfront retreat with premium seating and cabanas; and the soon-to-debut Great Tides Waterpark, a nearly six-acre attraction featuring 19 waterslides, cliffside jumps, a kids’ splash zone and an immersive river experience—ensuring a seamless, flexible island day for guests of all ages, from arrival to departure.

As the latest ship in the Company’s fleet, Norwegian Luna will offer a wide range of onboard experiences for every type of traveller and be the newest ship to call to the Caribbean with itineraries that visit both of NCL’s private island destinations, Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas and Harvest Caye in Belize.

With over 2,000 guests in attendance, the beloved christening ceremony – rooted in the maritime tradition of blessing a vessel before it officially begins its life at sea – took place at the Company’s LEED^® Gold Certified terminal at PortMiami. Featuring a special appearance from Norwegian Luna’s godmother and hull artist, ELLE, the event concluded with the ceremonial breaking of the bottle across the ship’s hull, bestowing blessings and safe travels for all who sail upon her.

In addition to her role at today’s christening ceremony, ELLE, Norwegian Luna’s godmother and renowned street artist, created the ship’s signature hull artwork – a vivid dreamscape titled ‘La Luna.’ Designed ahead of Norwegian Luna’s maiden voyage, the piece explores humanity’s enduring relationship with the cosmos and its innate connection to the moon’s rhythmic pull.

At 1,056 feet long with a guest capacity of 3,565, Norwegian Luna boasts the intentional design and wide-open spaces of the Prima Class with a variety of experiences that offer guests opportunities to curate their vacations exactly how they want. Like her sister ship Norwegian Aqua, Norwegian Luna offers the NCL-exclusive and award-winning Aqua Slidecoaster, the longest and fastest slides at sea, complete with exhilarating dual slides and a magnetic lift that propels adventurous guests through two different courses. Other attractions designed for the young and young at heart include the digital sports complex, the Glow Court, and the Luna Game Zone, which provides guests of all ages with a multitude of classic arcade games and virtual reality experiences.

Norwegian Luna introduces new experiences designed with multigenerational family travel in mind, including Luna Midway, an amusement park-style outdoor area featuring carnival-inspired games; Moon Climber, a multi-level obstacle course designed for kids and adults alike; and Horizon Park, a complimentary recreational area featuring lawn-style games, all located across the ship’s top decks.

In the evening, guests can immerse themselves in best-in-class entertainment with “Elton: A Celebration of Elton John™,” which pays tribute to the legendary and timeless music of the global icon himself, as well as “HIKO: Innovation Meets Wonder™,” a multimedia show featuring innovative design, cirque-style acrobatics, and contemporary dance. The guest-favourite Syd Norman’s Pour House returns with a new show “A Tribute to Eagles™,” an unforgettable production spotlighting the music of one of the best American bands of all time, playing on the mainstage in the Luna Theater and Club. “LunaTique™” makes its debut on Norwegian Luna as an exclusive late-night experience for guests 21 and older at The Improv at Sea. Inspired by the energy and allure of Las Vegas nights, the show blends bold visuals, specialty cocktails, and character-driven performances in an intimate setting. Additionally, “Sea of Discovery! An Under-the-Sea Festival,” is a first-of-its-kind original experience developed in-house and curated specifically for children and is inspired by nostalgic field day activities with glow games, whimsical costumes, awe-inspiring visuals.

Norwegian Luna features a diverse range of accommodations including solo, inside, oceanview and balcony staterooms, as well as suites in The Haven by Norwegian^®, NCL’s exclusive ship-within-a-ship complex with a private restaurant, bar and lounge. Great Stirrup Cay recently debuted enhancements including the Great Life Lagoon, a sprawling pool area featuring two swim‑up bars, cabanas, lounge chairs and is steps away from the family splash pad, Splash Harbor. The new adults‑only Vibe Shore Club provides an exclusive retreat that offers guests a private bar, premium lounge seating and cabanas, as well as private beach access. This summer the island will debut the nearly six-acre Great Tides Waterpark boasting 19 waterslides; industry-first cliffside jumps; Splash Cay, a 9,000 square-foot kids splash zone; and the Wandering River, a nearly 800-foot immersive water experience with an accelerated current that will be faster and more exciting than a typical lazy river.

Following Norwegian Luna’s season in Miami, the ship will sail from New York, offering guests four and seven-day round-trip itineraries to Bermuda from April 2027 through October 2027. With the flexibility of more time in port and overnight stays in Bermuda, guests can experience beautiful, pink sandy beaches as well as a variety of sea and land activities including catamaran boat rides, ATV rides, cave dives and scenic bike tours.
