In light of the recent drought in South Africa, many operators and travel brands on the ground are embracing sustainability and ‘going green’.
Giltedge Africa has now joined the ranks of those tourism companies who are making a difference in how international visitors travel in and through Southern and East Africa, embracing sustainable tourism wholeheartedly.
Fair Trade Tourism is a non-profit organisation, based in Pretoria, which promotes best-practice responsible tourism in Africa. Companies go through a rigorous process to be certified – and are tested by an external auditor using Fair Trade’s strict criteria. Taking a holistic approach, companies have to comply by business practice and HR, community resources, cultural heritage and environmental practice.
“Our Fair Trade approval signals our promise to act sustainably and adhere to Fair Trade’s code of conduct; we are now also approved to promote Fair Trade itineraries that encourages our clients to travel sustainably,” says Sean Kritzinger, Managing Director of Giltedge Africa.
The following Giltedge tours are now Fair Trade certified: An African Journey through a Photographer’s Lens, Untamed Botswana Fly-In Safari, Botswana Walking Adventure, and Fair Trade 4 star: South African Safari, Winelands, Whale Route & The Cape.
