Rwandair may soon add to its existing international offering with the launch of flights to the United States (US).

According to Rwanda Today, the government plans to expand Kigali International’s existing terminal with the inclusion of a new waiting area for passengers in a bid to secure a licence to operate flights to the US.

In addition, preparations have started for a technical review by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which will include the assessment of the compliance of airport operations based on international aviation regulations and standards. Rwanda currently has a Bi-lateral Air Service Agreement with the US.

Jimmy Musoni, Head of Commercial Planning at RwandAir confirmed that the airport is busy with preparations to be audited and that Rwandair is at an advanced stage in the process of launching flights to the US. He added that the airline had already passed the IATA Operational Safety Audit and secured a ground-handling certificate.
