TAAG Linhas Aéreas de Angola has just expanded its network of destinations in Europe and domestic connections in Spain, connecting Luanda to multiple international destinations via Madrid. From now on, TAAG customers and passengers will be able to travel on a codeshare basis to London (United Kingdom), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Rome, Milan (Italy), Geneva, Zurich (Switzerland), Brussels (Belgium) and Porto (Portugal). Domestic destinations in Spain are also included, namely Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Gran Canaria, Vigo, Malaga, Bilbao, Valencia and Seville.

The codeshare system offers customers a number of advantages. Passengers now have more fare options to choose from, wider access to IBERIA destinations available in the system, acquisition of a single ticket (for itinerary on both companies) purchased in local currency and with a guarantee of protection on connecting flights. Dealing with issues such as flight booking, check-in and baggage dispatch for trips with a stopover is also more agile and convenient for the passenger, within the codeshare partnership regime.

Under the agreement between the two airlines, the Africa-Europe route (Luanda/ Madrid/Luanda) is operated by TAAG, with the Europe-Europe connections carried out by IBERIA.

TAAG thus remains committed to offering a quality service to the customer, contributing more and more connectivity in the offer of international destinations.

TAAG Angola Airlines issued a statement to their stakeholders this month that the Luanda/Durban connection via Johannesburg (South Africa) is now available while the go-live for Luanda-Accra (Ghana) operation is scheduled for Wednesday, November 30th, 2022.

After (re)assessing market conditions, adjustments were made to Durban and Accra operations, an essential exercise regarding network optimization.

The Luanda/Durban connection is already operational with a stopover in Johannesburg. The Johannesburg/Durban route is ensured by a domestic operator partnering with TAAG. In a second phase, namely the 1st quarter of 2023, Luanda/Durban flights will be direct, operated exclusively by TAAG.

Please be advised that Durban (South Africa) and Accra (Ghana) are new destinations (TAAG did not operate in those cities before), reflecting the company’s growth and expansion footprint into markets with high demand and international traffic.

South African Airways (SAA) has increased frequency to Luanda, Angola, creating a more seamless travel experience for customers travelling to various destinations on the SAA network on all continents.

According to the airline, its African and Asian destinations in particular will have increased connectivity allowing for seamless travel.

The two extra weekly flights will commence with effect from 9 September 2018, bringing SAA’s total weekly operations between Johannesburg and Luanda to four flights per week.

SAA has been operating to Luanda for more than 30 years, making it one of the leading airlines in Angola. The route is very popular with not only travellers from Angola, but with most of the guests travelling from and to Luanda and then connecting on SAA’s route network to various destinations such as Sao Paulo, Hong Kong, New York, Washington and the entire Southern African Development Community.

“As part of our Africa growth strategy, we are enhancing our footprint on the continent by expanding our route network to enable seamless connections for our customers. We are especially pleased to offer our customers from Angola more travel options to connect them to the world through Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport. East and Southern Africa, and the rest of the continent and the world are easily within reach,” says Tlali Tlali, SAA Spokesperson.

SAA remains committed to living up to the promise of “Bringing the World to Africa. And taking Africa to the World.”

In addition, SAA customers can also fly with TAAG Angola Airlines, as the two carriers codeshare between Johannesburg and Luanda as well as Cape Town and Luanda.

TAAG Angola Airlines code-shares with SAA on its direct services between Johannesburg and Luanda, including destinations such Harare and Lusaka on the South African Airways network.
