Owned by the Mashishimale community and leased by MTH Lodge Holdings within in a sustainable conservation and eco-tourism partnership.

“Abelana means ‘to share amongst each other’ in the Northern Sotho language,” explains Ian Beauchamp, CEO of MTH Holdings and Abelana Game Reserve. “It’s fitting that we are sharing this lovely new camp and beautiful reserve both with the Mashishimale community and visitors from across the world looking for a truly authentic, intimate and sustainable African safari experience,” he adds.

The reserve offers landscapes dotted by granite outcrops and includes a 10km stretch of the semi-perennial Selati river. 

Located among distinctive rock formations and koppies (cups) that dominate the southern section of the reserve accommodates eight guests in five Meru-style en-suite luxury tents. There’s also a central lounge and dining area, as well as a fire pit and 100 square metre viewing deck atop the koppie on which the camp is built, offering panoramic views of the reserve and the waterhole below. 

The camp has a light footprint with solar power and gas geysers. No large trees were removed during construction.

The area surrounding the camp is ideal for exploring on foot and on horseback. South African trails guide and guide trainer John Fouche will be leading guests on morning walking safaris and afternoon game drives. 

Tamlyn Whitebread heads up the horse safaris. A qualified guide and expert equestrienne, Whitebread is known for her role in pioneering the way forward for women in South Africa’s safari industry.

Iganyana Tented Camp is situated on a private concession just minutes from Hwange airport and Hwange National Park.

15 large luxury tents each offering 640 square feet of pure peace and privacy, all rooms have king or twin beds,  en-suite bathrooms with separate dressing area, air-conditioning, tea and coffee making facilities, and double doors leading onto a shaded outdoor veranda.

There are several activities to choose from at Iganyana, game drives in the Hwange National Park, bush walks or a visit to the African Painted Dog Conservation Centre. Full day game drive inside Hwange National Park are also available on request.
