The Langa Quarter, a new tourism enterprise in Langa township was recently launched.

The enterprise is described as a hub of enterprise and social development projects.

Ultimately, the Langa Quarter SEP (Social Enterprise Precinct) consists of a nucleus of 207 homes. These have been transformed into restaurants, galleries, informal bars (shebeens), craft stores and The Langa Quarter Homestay Hotel, a 40-bed cluster of Homestay accommodation in the residents’ homes, nine of which are listed on Airbnb.

Tony Elvin, the project forms part of the Ikhaya Le Langa NPC non-profit organisation and is an honorary sustainable tourism member of the Federated Hospitality Association of South Africa (FEDHASA), the national trade association for the hospitality industry.

The agency will present its signature Past, Present, Future Tour which includes the exclusive Apartheid Pass Museum re-enactments, traditional foods, local art, entertainment and walking tours.

Officially launched on 13 December 2017, VIPs and media guests who attended the event were treated to a tour of the Quarter, including the Homestay Hotel, Black Plaques, street art as well as a stop-over at a few of the restaurants on offer.
