South African Travellers can now interact with KLM via What’s App

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has announced that it has become the first airline in the world to sign up to the What’s App Business platform.

The Dutch flag carrier is trialling a new service on the messaging app What’s App, that will offer customers booking confirmations, check-in notifications, boarding passes, flight status updates as well as the ability to answer questions in 10 different languages.

Customers can also directly contact KLM’s social media service agents, 24/7, via WhatsApp. The service is available to customers who book tickets or check in via KLM.com and opt-in to receive information via What’s App.

Messages are secure so that they can only be read by the customer and KLM, and no one else, not even What’s App. Customers can easily recognise verified businesses using the official WhatsApp business application. This means that customers will see a green checkmark badge next to the KLM contact name on What’s App.

The rollout of the service has started already in a limited number of countries, including South Africa.
