International tourist arrivals to Victoria Falls rose 16% in 2016 and have gained an additional 32% on that in the first 6 months of 2017. This is according to figures released in a tourism survey of the Victoria Falls region, conducted by Africa Albida Tourism.
With Victoria Falls’ new international airport now capable of landing direct long haul wide-bodied aircraft, a handful of new airlines have launched flights into Zimbabwe’s top resort town this year. This has helped boost the tourism numbers, according to the study.
With area occupancies at 50% in 2016 and over 12 000 beds in the area, there is still plenty of capacity for growth in arrivals. The study further stipulates that the area would benefit from a convention centre, which would also assist airlines with volumes and business class passengers.
