44 SA beaches to fly the blue flag this summer

Forty-four beaches in South Africa have been awarded the coveted Blue Flag status earlier this week, while another 22 beaches in three provinces have been listed as Blue Flag pilot sites working toward full accreditation.

Carrying Blue Flag status‚ signifies that beaches adhere to the International Blue Flag status of being clean, that the water quality is safe and that these beaches hold high environmental standards. working towards full accreditation in future.

Forty-four beaches will fly the Blue Flag this summer‚ signifying clean‚ safe water quality and high environmental standards.

The official ‘Blue Flag season’ commences on 1 November‚ with the 44 beaches divided into 28 beaches in the Western Cape‚ nine in KwaZulu-Natal and seven in the Eastern Cape.

Speaking at the launch of 2017/18 beaches‚ tourism minister Tokozile Xasa said Blue Flag status would help to draw around 5 million visitors to the country over the next five years.
