It is traditionally a special right reserved only for winemakers; tasting magic within the barrel. This March, the Stellenbosch Cabernet Collective (SCC) in conjunction with the Toyota US Woordfees, invites wine enthusiasts to a unique opportunity to taste the best Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignons directly from the barrel. This rare barrel tasting experience will showcase a selection of top Stellenbosch Cabernets on preview.
The beautiful Waterford Estate tasting room and courtyard will play host to this evening event, in its inaugural year, and guests will be spoilt with a selection of Stellenbosch Cabernets served from the barrel, alongside a current bottled vintage in which to compare. Guests will be encouraged to walk through the courtyard under the summer stars, whilst sipping on exceptional vintages of Stellenbosch Cabernet and mingling with the winemakers and owners of member wineries. Live music will complement the evening, and a selection of small plates will be on sale to pair with the wines.
Each of the 29 Stellenbosch Cabernet Collective member wineries have specially selected their best barrels to show at the event, and most of these wines will only be available in market in a few years’ time. This is the perfect opportunity to get an insider view of what the future vintages have in store for lovers of Stellenbosch Cabernet.
“This is such a fantastic opportunity for proponents of Cabernet to experience a barrel tasting, which is truly a rare event on the wine calendar. We wanted member wineries to be able to show their young wines in anticipation of what is coming in the future.”, says Christo le Riche, Chairman of the SCC. “We have such a special terroir in Stellenbosch for crafting world-class Cabernets, and many of our wines are achieving international acclaim. Stellenbosch Cabernet Collective is a non-profit organisation that endeavours to improve global perceptions of Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon through a cohesive collection of members.
