Fastjet was named the Best Value Airline in Africa at the 2018 Air Transport Awards on 5 March 2018. The annual awards, created by leading industry publication International Transport News, recognises excellence amongst all role players in the global aviation industry. The award is fastjet’s third accolade in as many quarters following the Skytrax World Airline Awards’ Best Low-Cost Airline in Africa and the World Travel Awards’ Leading African Low-Cost Carrier honours received in 2017.
“It is a tremendous honour to receive recognition by such prestigious awards from within our industry,” says fastjet chief executive Nico Bezuidenhout. “It also serves as a validation for the substantial changes and significant enhancements made during the Stabilisation Plan which included a full network reengineering process, a complete fleet changeover, a new reservation system launch and market entry of the fastjet brand into Mozambique along with a move from London to African soil, amongst others.” Bezuidenhout adds that more than anything, awards recognize the efforts of employees at fastjet whose relentless pursuit of excellence has been evident with the airline’s network wide on-time performance exceeding 90% for the second month in a row. (January 91%, February 94%).
Discussing the awards, Heather Ryan, Awards Coordinator commented: “These awards recognise those firms, and their C-level executives who have contributed to the ongoing success of the industry, and reward them for their incredible work, innovation and accomplishments. As such I would like to offer my congratulations on behalf of everyone here at International Transport News Magazine to my deserving winners and wish them the very best of luck going forward.” International Transport News prides itself on the validity of its awards and winners. The awards are given solely on merit and are awarded to commend those most deserving for their ingenuity and hard work, distinguishing them from their competitors and proving them worthy of recognition.
